Shaw acupuncture and East Asian Medicine is a Chinese medical clinic dedicated to helping patients on the journey to heal themselves. Shaw Acupuncture specializes in physical medicine in the forms of cranial therapy, shiatsu, myofascial release and structural integration along with somatic based counseling for healing trauma and instilling emotional well being as well as herbal medicine to treat chronic disease.

Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine

I am classically trained in Acupuncture and Chinese herbs, deriving my treatments from Nei Jing Channel theory and theory. Acupuncture is uniquely suited to treating pain conditions, such as back, neck and musculoskeletal pain, as well as helping people to find grounding and regulate their emotional states. Acupuncture can accelerate recovery from many conditions while helping to balance our mental and physical experiences.

My needling style is both strong and gentle, with a focus on patient sensation and tolerance.

Structural Bodywork

I am skilled in structural integration, osteopathic modalities such as craniosacral and visceral manipulation, shiatsu and myofascial release. I integrate bodywork into nearly every treatment and many clients come for bodywork only sessions. I am able to work with physical and mental/emotional trauma and injury directly through the body, as well as focus on wellness and prevention. In my career I have helped people avoid surgeries in their knees, hips and jaws, while also working with folks with long term pain conditions to come back into their body. Additionally, I offer somatic attachment based body work that helps to repair early childhood attachment issues.

I had a shiatsu massage with Kelly and he seriously helped me out. I have had horrible neck pain which has been causing dizziness and headaches and he worked diligently - incredibly healing. I feel a world of difference. A perfect vibe, clean, professional, extremely friendly and effective. I highly recommend this facility – KH

Somatic Experiencing

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a method of trauma therapy developed by Peter Levine. You may have heard of it if you have read his popular book Waking the Tiger. SE uses our neuro-physiology along with our innate capacity to access the total sensorium of our experience to renegotiate the places we are stuck, SE is unique in that it is not psychotherapy, but rather a body-based form of therapy. It can be done with and without having to tell ones story. In SE we focus on developing our interoception and the capacity to experience widely and deeply to release old wounds and live life deeper. In addition to being an Somatic Experiencing Practiitioner (SEP) I have taken advanced study in touch based trauma therapy, developmental and psychomotor work. Please note that I am not a licensed mental health practitioner. SE and trauma counseling with me should be undertaken as an addition to standard mental health care.

Co-regulating touch

Co-regulating touch is a gentle and non-verbal form of bodywork that harnesses the power of compassionate touch to support individuals in healing from developmental trauma and restoring balance to the nervous system. Rooted in the principles of empathy and connection, co-regulating touch creates a safe and nurturing environment where clients can explore their inner landscape, release stored tension, and cultivate a greater sense of well-being.  Co-regulating touch helps foster deep body awareness while supporting stabilization, centering and grounding.  Its effective for people in crisis as well as long term change work.  It is similar to cranio-sacral therapy, but has a different intention in that it does not try to intervene in the system at all, but accepts it wholly as welcome as it is.

About Kelly

I am a licensed acupuncturist, somatic experiencing practitioner (SEP) and certified co-regulating touch practitioner.

My practice specializes in physical medicine and body centered psychodynamic work integrating and synthesizing many different modalities to best serve my clients.  I treat all forms of pain conditions, from knee, hip, neck and low back pain, to migraines, whiplash and menstrual cramps.  I have helped people avoid hip and knee replacements, recover from auto accidents, heal from concussions and regain mobility they thought they would never have again.  I also work on the emotional and psychological levels, using the body itself as the venue for renegotiating old traumas and developing new resources.

My process is centered, grounded and real. My aim is to improve your symptom pictures as well as help you develop longevity to last your lifetime. I help people to not just liberate themselves from pain, but to become empowered in their own bodies; to inhabit and live fully connected and embodied.

I am trained in classical Chinese acupuncture and herbal medicine derived from the Nei Jing and Shang han za bing lun.  I utilize osteopathic techniques such as craniosacral therapy and visceral manipulation, structural integration and myofascial release, as well as somatic based psychology and trauma work derived from somatic experiencing, bodynamics, psychosynthesis, and other body centered forms of mental and emotional therapy. I work with clients where they are at, and can adapt my treatment to include more or less acupuncture or bodywork depending on their need and inclination.

"... And what is it to work with love?
It is to weave the cloth with threads drawn from your heart,
even as if your beloved were to wear that cloth.
It is to build a house with affection,
even as if your beloved were to dwell in that house.
It is to sow seeds with tenderness and reap the harvest with joy,
even as if your beloved were to eat the fruit.
It is to charge all things you fashion with a breath of your own spirit,
And to know that all the blessed dead
are standing about you and watching..." Kahlil Gibran, On Work, from the Prophet
